GI Junk Removal stemmed from a desire to serve the community. Co-owners, Matt and Katie Mitchell, both have served the people around them for their entire lives. This small business allows them to serve their community in a different capacity.
GI Junk Removal is committed to SERVICE: Sincerity, Empathy, Valor, Initiative, Community and Collaboration, and Enthusiasm.
A native of California, Matt began his adult life fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan immediately after 9/11. As a member of the United States Army Infantry in the 101st Airborne, Matt served 3 tours before returning to the States. He landed in Missouri after his service where he earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees. Matt transitioned from serving his country in the Army to serving his community in the classroom. After spending a few years coaching football and teaching high school English, Matt moved over to property management. He is now a property manager with Northpoint Development.
When he isn’t working at Northpoint, Matt is the dreamer behind GI Junk Removal. He's running the numbers and sharing the vision, all while corralling his five kids!
Kate’s love for people and connection has always driven her life’s timeline. These passions led her to be a mom of her own kids and teacher to thousands of others. For 15 years, Kate taught high school English in Liberty. When Matt’s dream of GI Junk came alive, Kate left her classroom to apply her skills in communication, training, and people in a different arena. Now, she is the voice and face of GI Junk, leading the day to day operations and connecting with the community. Junk removal has allowed her to network and volunteer throughout the KC metro, passions she’s excited to put to good use.
At home, Kate gets to be a mom to five who reads in every spare minute she has, and every once in a blue moon, she and Matt get time to themselves!
YES! Not only do we offer military discounts, but we also offer discounts for returning customers.
Yes! In order to provide accurate and affordable junk removal pricing, we need to come see the junk in person to determine how large and heavy the items are.
There are many pieces that factor into junk removal costs. Our team first looks at the weight and size of the objects being removed. They then estimate the time involved in removing them. That allows them to estimate labor costs and dump fees. Of course, our team must also include the overhead of insurance, truck and trailer upkeep, and gas. Our team will also discuss additional fees if the junk removal presents a risk for our employees.
No. Our owner, Matt, is a veteran. Our employees are actually former students of Matt and his wife, Katie. Both Matt and Katie taught high school English. When GI Junk started taking off, they found former students they knew they could trust to do quality work for customers. Matt helped veterans transition into civilian life; he is now using those skills to help former students who are hard-working but not college-bound transition to a line of work they excel at.
